Celebrating 20 Years of Magic: Our Journey So Far
Twenty years ago, in June of 2006, Fairytale Entertainment was born from a simple idea and a big dream. At the time, it was just my wife and me with four princess gowns, a passion for bringing joy to children, and no real idea of where that dream would eventually take us. We certainly never imagined that what began as a small family business would one day become a company serving families across the Midwest.
Those early days were filled with excitement, uncertainty, and a willingness to say yes to every opportunity to make a child's day a little more magical. Every birthday party, every smile, every hug from a child reminded us why we had started this journey in the first place. Those moments became the foundation of everything Fairytale Entertainment would grow to become.
Over the past twenty years, that little company has grown far beyond anything we could have imagined. What started with princess parties has expanded into an incredible collection of family entertainment experiences. Today we're honored to provide princesses, superheroes, pirates, fairies, cartoon and movie characters, pop star dance parties, clowns, face painters, balloon artists, Kids DJ Parties, Nerf Wars, laser tag, immersive dinosaur experiences, RC Car Racing, RC Boat Racing, Princess Balls, event concessions, and our newest Foam Party experiences. Each new service has come from asking one simple question: "How can we create even more unforgettable memories for families?"
Our expansion began back in 2014 with an exciting push into the Chicagoland area. Fueled with big dreams and adventurous spirits, we explored the market and found the perfect office location in Naperville, IL. We quickly fell in love with the city and the incredible potential a Chicago office brought to our company. It didn’t take long for that location to grow, and a dynamic team emerged that made a meaningful impact across the entire region. This chapter introduced us to some of the most exciting events and clients we had ever worked with and taught us so much about our business and the people we love to bring magic to.
In 2017, we continued that momentum with a bold push to expand even further beyond our Detroit and Chicago markets. We opened an office in Los Angeles, California, followed by another in Grand Rapids, Michigan. This season of growth brought incredible experiences and expanded our knowledge in ways we could never have anticipated. It was a time fueled by vision and belief—that more families deserved to experience the magic we had worked so hard to create.
With growth came unexpected challenges, and in 2020, like so many others, we were faced with the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. The closures that followed were difficult and ultimately led to the end of those offices. There is no regret in growth—only learning. That season taught us invaluable lessons about resilience, deepened our understanding of our clients, and strengthened our ability to navigate business through difficult times.
In 2021, we expanded our local operations by moving into a large warehouse in Auburn Hills, Michigan. This move allowed us to house our growing team and expanding entertainment services, while also giving us the opportunity to transform our original office space into what is now known as the Party Place in Auburn Hills. Today, the Party Place hosts magical family events of every kind, including birthday parties, weddings, wedding showers, baby showers, graduation parties, business meetings, and countless other celebrations.
Renovating and bringing the Party Place to life inspired us to dream even bigger. That vision led to the creation of the Fun Place in Clarkston, Michigan—an 11,000 square foot indoor playground complete with a pizza café, bar, event stage, gaming area, and private party rooms designed for unforgettable family experiences. This expansion opened the door to an entirely new world of events and activities powered by Fairytale Entertainment and the talented cast that brings the magic to life week after week.
More than anything, these experiences reaffirmed what Fairytale Entertainment has always been about. It has never simply been about costumes or parties—it’s about creating joy, building lasting memories, and bringing a sense of wonder into people’s lives. That mission carried us through our toughest moments and continues to guide every step we take forward.
One of those unforgettable adventures came in 2025 when our team was given the incredible honor of providing the Easter Bunny for the prestigious White House Easter Egg Roll. Standing on the White House grounds representing a company that began with four princess dresses was one of those surreal moments that causes you to stop and reflect on just how far the journey has come. It remains one of the greatest honors in our company's history, and we're incredibly thankful that partnership continues today.
As exciting as the last twenty years have been, we're just as excited about what lies ahead. Fairytale Entertainment is entering a brand-new chapter with the development of a children's book series and an exciting YouTube show designed to encourage imagination, laughter, and meaningful family moments. It's a different kind of storytelling, but it reflects the very same mission we've had since day one—to inspire children and create lasting memories for families.
Throughout this incredible journey, our family has grown alongside the business. Our son is now following in our footsteps and has begun taking the reins on some of the exciting expansion projects we are involved in. Having found his lifelong princess from within our cast, he is now married and has a beautiful daughter who is already stealing the spotlight. Andrew and Grace, along with their daughter Daisy, represent the next generation of what Fairytale Entertainment will become.
As our team continues to grow and our services continue to evolve, we often find ourselves thinking back to those very first events. We remember the anticipation before arriving, the excitement of seeing children meet their favorite characters, and the smiles that reminded us we had chosen the right path. Even after twenty years, those moments still mean everything to us.
Looking back, success has never really been measured by how many costumes we've added, how many miles we've traveled, or how many events we've performed. Success has always been measured in smiles, laughter, and memories. It's measured by the families who invite us back year after year and by the children who grow up remembering a magical moment that became part of their childhood.
None of this would have been possible without the incredible families, schools, churches, libraries, businesses, communities, performers, and team members who have trusted us over the years. Whether we joined you for a birthday party, a school assembly, a community festival, a holiday celebration, or a corporate event, thank you for allowing us to be part of your special moments. Your trust has allowed our little family business to grow into something we never could have imagined.
Twenty years later, our mission hasn't changed. We still believe in the power of imagination, the importance of family, and the joy that comes from seeing a child's face light up with excitement. Those first four princess gowns may have started this journey, but it's the people we've met along the way who have made it so meaningful.
